You’re not “too sensitive.” This climate is heavy and it’s okay if it’s impacting your relationship.
Hey friend,
A client recently said, “It’s like we’re fine… until the news is on. Then suddenly I’m holding my breath, waiting to see if he’s going to say something that sets me off. Or worse, shuts me down.”
She wasn’t describing a huge fight.
There wasn’t yelling or name-calling.
But there was a slow, heavy wedge forming, fueled by something so many of us are carrying quietly: political stress.
We’re months out from the election. But that doesn’t mean the tension has left. If anything, it’s sunk deeper into the way we watch the news, the way we parent, the way we bring up certain topics with our partners.
Politics are exhausting us.
Not just because of disagreement but because of the emotional labor it takes to hold all this.
Even for those who align politically with their partners, keeping up with changes and threats and trying to make gameplans with changing details- it is like a new form of mental exhaustion and we all know that with exhaustion and overwhelm comes more tension in other areas.
We're trying to stay informed, make values-aligned decisions, protect our peace, raise kids with compassion…
And all of that takes energy.
So what happens when your partner casually disagrees with something that feels sacred to you?
Or when they dismiss the issue that kept you up the night before?
Or when, in some cases, your partner doesn't value the same things you do?
It doesn't stay about politics.
It seeps into how safe you feel.
How heard. How seen.
And the weight of it can make even the smallest conflict feel huge.
You’re not imagining it.
And you’re not weak for feeling it.
In fact, the clients I coach through this season are some of the most thoughtful, self-aware people I know.
They’re just... tired.
Tired of tiptoeing.
Tired of wondering what’s okay to say.
Tired of feeling alone in their own home.
And most of all tired of how the outside world keeps threatening their inside connection.
So what do you do with all of this?
First: Name it without blame.
“I’ve noticed that I carry a lot of stress after the news or political conversations. I want us to feel like a team again, and I’m wondering how we can protect that a bit better.”
This doesn’t accuse. It invites.
Second: Get curious about where you do align.
Not politically but personally.
- What kind of future do we want for our kids?
- How do we want our home to feel right now?
- What’s something we both value deeply, even if we express it differently?
Third: Create emotional breathing room.
You don’t have to talk about everything every day.
You’re allowed to take breaks from the noise.
You're allowed to set boundaries.
You’re allowed to say, “Hey, can we just be us tonight?”
From one mama to another:
You’re doing a brave, beautiful thing by even caring this much.
And if it feels heavy right now? That makes sense.
This week on the podcast, I’m diving deeper into:
- How political tension shows up in relationships (even subtly)
- A story from a real client who navigated this season with grace
- The tools I teach to protect connection when you don’t see eye-to-eye

Did you know?
Penguins give their mates a special pebble as a gift during courtship. If the other penguin accepts it, they build their nest together — one stone at a time.
A recent study found that Americans are spending less time outdoors than ever before, with many citing stress and screen fatigue as barriers.
But even just 10 minutes outside, especially near trees or natural light, can reduce cortisol levels and improve mood.
This is your friendly nudge: take the walk, touch the grass, let the sun hit your face.
You deserve peace that isn’t filtered through a screen.
Sending you support (and permission to not do it all),
