Central Ohio: Mom Brew + More

Don't tell the rest of the email list, but the Central Ohio crew is my favorite.

Truly, though, there's something about in-person community that you just can't get online. Seeing someone's body language, making eye contact, seeing and hearing their voice, maybe even a "are you a hugger because I feel like we're friends now."

Parenting is hard.

Parenting without a strong support of people in your life who get it feels impossible.

That's why a branch of our mission at Postpartum Together is in-person events for parents. A place to exhale, let down your walls, and be seen and enjoyed for awhile. Bonus when there's something for your kids to do so you can maybe even finish a sentence.

Anyone is welcome at our events- moms, dads, kids. The only requirement is you're a kind human who believes in making the world a better place for everybody. Alright maybe one more- don't be a mom shamer. Please don't come if you want to tell other people what they need to do to reach some standard of motherhood you saw on Pinterest. If that's you, please shoo.

Here are a couple of local opportunities to do that in the next few weeks:

1. September Mom Brew Crew

Where: Land Grant Brewing Company
When: Saturday, September 20th from 12-2pm
What to expect: We snag a couple of tables (Planning for outside as long as weather is cooperative). You'll see me in a Mom Brew Crew shirt (see picture below) and we'll have a central table where you can grab a name tag and a little welcome sheet. There will be sensory bins for the kids from Twinkle Toes Nanny Agency and there's a great space the older kids can play basketball or just hang.

Sam from The Educated Pelvis will also be there doing a giveaway for an adult + kids squatty potty and you can ask her your pelvic floor questions if you want to (but like, there's not a check-in on whether you talked about it or not so don't worry if you're a little shy.)

We'll mingle, I'll do my best to help you find some other parents you'll have things in common with, and then at 1:30 we'll get together for a picture and a short discussion prompt. We'll tell you a bit about what we're working on at Postpartum Together and then help you get into small groups with a couple of prompts to have some real talk re: parenthood and life.

You'll probably leave feeling lighter, less alone, and excited to keep connecting with someone you met there. If not, you get a full refund (which is funny because this is totally free.)

If you like beer or other "growm up drinks (as my kids used to say)" you can enjoy Land Grant. If you like food, you can enjoy the food truck. If you don't enjoy either, you can enjoy the people.

If you're a parking-stressed person, look at a few tips here: Parking | Land-Grant Brewing Company

2. Playdate On Purpose

When: Tuesday, September 23rd from 5-7pm
Where:
Scioto Audobon Metro Park
What to expect: B
ring your own dinner and join us for a kid-friendly meet-up.
This is a casual family meet-up where you can pick up dinner or bring a picnic. My beautiful and talented friend Rachel Joy Barehl will be joining us to take pictures to promote future events, so sit it out if having your kids in photos is not your jam. But free photos for you and your kids if it is your jam!
This is for both couples and singles to attend!

We don't have an RSVP page but feel free just to show up and reply to this email with any questions!

3. October Mom Brew Crew

When: Saturday, October 18th 12-2pm
Where:
Crooked Can Brewing Company
What to expect: Honestly, same as above in the September event :)

Chelsea + Mike, Circa 2017: Me: "My brain won't let me sleep." Mike: "Just wait until tomorrow for that stuff."Me: "MUST BE NICE THAT YOUR BRAIN DOESN'T FEEL LIKE IT'S PUTTING OUT FIRES EVERY SINGLE SECOND"Mike: 😐 Did I email the daycare about that form? Do we have diapers in the next size up? When was the last time I rotated the baby’s clothes? Don’t forget to thaw the milk before tomorrow’s appointment… —the endless mental tabs that keep a household running but often fall on one parent...

Hey friend, Ever feel like every little conversation turns into a standoff after baby? 👉 One of you wants to hash it out right now. 👉 The other pulls away and goes quiet. And the harder you push, the further apart you get. It’s not that you don’t love each other. It’s that you have different processing styles. External processors lower their stress by talking it all out. Internal processors calm their stress by pulling back to think first. Same goal: Calm. Two totally different approaches....

Hello lovely Central Ohio friends! A few quick reminders or nuggets of info for you! 1. Go put some sunshine on your face today. 2. Put your earbuds in for this new episode of the podcast that is surely going to unlock something in you (If you were at a Babies and Bumps event, you heard us talk a lot about this concept!) 3. Our next Mom Brew Crew is Saturday, September 20th at Land Grant. We will have a fun giveaway from The Educated Pelvis and a kids' activity run by Twinkle Toes Nanny...
